The Covid Variations are based on MIDI sonifications of the SARS-CoV-2 virus RNA strings developed by Hugo Paquete (paquete.bandcamp.com)

In Covid Variations I (Mutations), all the RNA strings are placed next to each other and played simultaneously in loop mode. The different length of the separate RNA string sonifications allows for a gradual distortion when the tracks come out of sync. Manual errors, programme glitches and intentional manipulation further deteriorate the sound over the 44 minute length of the piece as the RNA information mutates. Covid Variations II and III consist of further manipulation of the same source material. Full-on MIDI bonanza.
